The challenge of leading a balanced life

Infinitive MindLife - For Individuals - Balanced Life

Balancing the demands of modern life is a challenge that affects all of individuals. In our lives and careers, we are expected to comply with others’ expectations, or be driven towards the goals of our organization. In the name of harmony and career success, many of us sacrifice personal matters or relegate them to a later stage.

We are expected to ‘perform’ not only in our roles as employees, bosses, and team members, but equally as parents, sons or daughters, spouses, friends, or in a multitude of other private or public roles. Managing these responsibilities often causes people to neglect the one relationship on which all others build upon: the relationship we have to our self. The consequences? From confusion about one’s life direction to work dissatisfaction, difficult relationships, depression, frustration, poor health…the list of afflictions is long and sadly common in modern life.

I subscribe to the belief that our career, personal, family and other life challenges are best addressed by first establishing more clarity within ourselves. Together we start by clarifying your individual preferences, goals, strengths and weaknesses. Then, we look at the context of work & relationships. This way we uncover possible options that are the foundations for a healthy way forward.

I have helped many individuals from diverse backgrounds and with unique challenges and aspirations to get themselves unstuck and back on track.

My Approach to Facilitating Success, Contentment and Life Balance

For most private individuals who seek my help, I use a coaching approach. Coaching is a guided conversation between the individual (the coachee) and the coach. This conversation can take many directions but essentially the aim is to unearth a deep understanding of the coachee’s current situation and an honest appraisal about the coachee’s genuine aspirations.

The coach then guides the individual through a goal-setting and action-planning process to establish focus and direct energy to reach the goals.

Coaching can be about many things – life direction, relationships, job performance, financial success, career decisions, leadership, health outcomes…some individuals have already identified clear needs, and others may have quite broad, all-encompassing questions to address.

In either scenario the coach will help to crystallize specific objectives that meet the coachee’s true needs. The coach will also safeguard that the identified actions are realistic and outcome-focused.

  • Life Coaching commonly focuses on your individual well-being. The goals of families or organizations may be taken into account but are not at the centre of the initiative.
  • Executive Coaching emphasizes managerial career success and performance. While your individual aspirations and needs play a strong role they are considered in alignment with business objectives and with the goal of identifying solutions to work & business challenges. While Executive Coaching is often initiated and sponsored by the employer organization, it can also be pursued privately and in confidence, as a self-directed career initiative.

Depending on the nature of the engagement, I often use complementary tools, frameworks or assessments:

  • MBTI: The Myers Briggs Typology Indicator is a widely used psychological assessment that gives a better understanding of self and others and offers many profound life and work benefits.
  • Mind-Body Alignment: I firmly believe that body and mind are inseparable. Being out of balance leads to stress & unhappiness and often specific health problems. To help re-balance body, mind as well as spirituality I offer some carefully selected but very effective techniques including meditation/mindfulness, and Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)

  • Apollo Career Profile: This psychometric assessment is used in recruitment and career development initiatives to measure work preference, values and motivation. It offers clarity on factors contributing to career success, and identifies areas and actions for development.
